Review of The Cenacle

Here is the first review we have received.  This came in the day after the CD release…

I am sitting here at the computer on this saturday morning with the new cd in the cd drive

wow

first I must comment on the sound quality.  It is wonderful.  Nancy said you got some new equipment.  The layering (not sure if that’s the right word) is evident.  You can hear base guitar, mandolin,  with such clarity, fantastic.  Love the cover art both on the insert and the face of the cd itself.  Very simple and elegant.

the content will take some time to absorb.  As we have shared many times, I think music has a way of attaching itself to memory intellect and emotion like nothing else can, and so the music will aid in the process.   I heard Fr Cook say that last night– that he had a hard time with the book and he knew the music would help.

From what I know of the Bishop’s writings (and I don’t know nearly enough) it is possible that this book may summarize better than his others the things he taught and believed and learned because he gave his life to be a priest and it was so central to who he was

As I listen for the second time one of the things that is becoming evident to me is that I  tend to separate  based on  vocation– married  separate from single separate from consecrated.  So many of the themes here come back to  all of us whatever our vocation need to work together to bring about Christ’s mission in the world.

Musically one of the things that struck me first was in Anamnesis (note to self:  look that word up in the book :),
that single (mandolin?) strum behind the chorus stays in my head
If I was going to put one track on “repeat” it would probably be “True Unity”.  How joyful that is!!!!  And musically you can really hear the base guitar, i don’t usually notice a base part but that is REALLY great.  also very melodic, probably the one I will memorize first
The chorus and harmony in “Love’s Mystery” is beautiful very meditative.

Also love the base part and driving nature of “Our Model and Mother”  You’re right, most songs about Mary are quiet and meek.  Perhaps the irony is it’s strongest drawing point.
love the harmonica part on Divine Spirit  also the content of this one makes a some particularly etherial concepts more attainable.  Melody is lots of fun
love the multiple guitar tracks on “The Priest” and the part about reclaiming the world.  Powerful

We will be giving a copy to Fr Gutgsell (sp) and whoever our new priest is when reeassigned.  We just found out Fr Broheimer is being reassigned.  We don’t know who our new priest will be yet.  Might find out this weekend.  I was just going to hand it to them on the way out of church but God is inspiring me, I think we will put a thank you card with it thanking them for their service to the church  and a note that tells them about you and Biship Giaquinta

thank you again.  May God take you on many adventures in the coming months and years.
