Welcome ot Pro Sanctity’s Holiness Heplers on Spirit 102.7.  I’m Nancy Tefft, and this is July: A Deeper Look At Our Relationships With God, Family, And Community.

Today’s theme is “Children: God’s Gift of Love.”  When a couple makes the decision to marry, life changes.  Each has to sacrifice for the other and give up many of their old ways.  Just as the couple settles into married life, God grants them a share in HIS creation, a child.

The news of this new life is the happiest and scariest moment in the couple’s lives.  Suddenly, the couple must give up space for the nursery, spending money for baby needs, time for play, and sleep for their nocturnal darling.

Day by day the child grows and learns.  Life becomes an adventure.  Once he is relatively independent, he may fall into a routine, and parents can take their first breath in three or so years.

Although…just because he can play by himself does not necessarily mean he will play by himself.  A child needs to be constantly reminded that Mommy and Daddy love him.  He may ask to be played with everytime he sees his parents walk into the room.

Everytime that becomes a chore, remember that he is little for a short time, and someday, all too soon, he will be getting married and having children of his own.

In the end it is our parents who remind us of our past, our spouses who remind us of our present, and our children who give us hope for the future.

Welcome to Pro Sanctity’s Holiness Helpers on Spirit 102.7.  I’m Nancy Tefft, and this is “July: A Deeper Look At Our Relationships With God, Family, and Community.”  Today’s theme is Marriage: A Love Made In Heaven.  After the Lord created Adam in the Garden, God saw that Adam was lonely.  Even the animals could not fill the void.  God created Eve.  Adam loved Eve.  He found that he was complete with her.

St. Paul discussed the sacred bonds of marriage in his letter to  the Ephesians.  He told them wives should be supportive of their husbands, and husbands must love their wives as Christ loved the Church, stretching out His arms on the Cross for her.  The man is head of the family, and the wife is the heart.

Today love is a complicated thing.  In days past, love was a commitment to another person, rejecting all others.  Today love is seen as a feeling that comes and goes, and marriage is seen as a temporary agreement that lasts as long as both parties are having fun.

In the beginning it was not so.

God draws us to the spouse we are meant to have.  If we are agreeable, we can build beautiful lives with these people, designed to be our other halves.  However, in our fallen world there is often jealousy and resistance to change.  Scripture covers this as well, “A man shall leave his mother and a woman her home.”  We are called to leave everything for love of the other, regardless of the naysayers.  If we place God at the center and the well-being of our spouse before ourselves, we can build a love made in Heaven.

Today is the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle.

...and Thomas replied, "My Lord and God."

St. Thomas is best known for being so hurt and angry at Jesus for letting Himself be crucified instead of crushing the Roman oppressors under foot, that he gave up.  Thomas was done with all of it.  He petulantly said it would take putting his fingers in the wounds to make him believe.  The prophets foretold of a mighty savior.  Where was HE?!  What good was some suffering servant that could be put down without a second thought?

Thomas had given up everything for Jesus, now that Jesus was dead, Thomas had nothing to go back to, no future, and no hope.

That is what he was BEST KNOWN for, but that is not what earned him a feast day.

Jesus returned to the upper room, and this time Thomas was there.  He felt terrible about the hurtful things he had said and felt toward Jesus.  Jesus knew Thomas’ heart and bid him to touch the wounds, suffered that all my be free of death’s dark hold.  There was healing in the wounds.  Thomas experienced an  unshakable conversion.

As John listened to the Heart of Christ at the Last Supper, so Thomas touched the human vulnerability of GOD.

Today, we touch Christ in a similarly intimate way each time we receive the Eucharist.  However, that is not the only way…

Each time we touch another through our thoughts, words, and deeds we either place balm or salt in the wounds of Christ.

God Creates Adam

Welcome to Pro Sanctity’s Holiness Helpers on Spirit 102.7.  I’m Nancy Tefft, and this is July: A Deeper Look At Our Relationships With God, Family, and Community.”

Today’s theme is “God: Our Constant Companion, Savior, and Friend.”  Many times we feel alone in the world, wondering if we will ever find the happiness others seem to have.  In the darkest of these moments, we may call out to the Lord, asking if He truly loves us, or if we have been left by the wayside as other, more deserate prayers are answered first.

We know that lasting peace can only come from God, but how do we gain the confidence to give ourselves to the Lord fully?  St. Patrick had the answer.  He prayed over 100 times a day, offering a simple petition: “Christ Be With Me.”

As we grow in our faith, we become more able to trust in God’s plan and accept our role in it.  It is at this point that we realize God has been with us the whole time.  The world is loud, and we just missed Him.  In the end we are God’s people, and we belong to Him.  As His children, our home is with the Lord.
