Welcome to Holy Heart Media!
We are a Catholic-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting traditional values through music, stage, motion pictures, and periodicals. We do this by producing, showcasing, and promoting original works of various arts and media.
For over 2000 years, art and music have been incorporated in the spread of Christianity. From the frescos in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, to the Christmas pageants preschoolers put on for their parents, to the contemplative/praise concerts held in parish social halls to inspire the youth, the Catholic identity has been expressed first and foremost through the arts. We see our faith, reinact our faith, hear our faith, then we internalize our faith. Through the arts we KNOW what it means to be Catholic, and we know what we must do to serve God as the saints of old had done. When we walk up to the Communion rail, we understand that THIS IS the BODY OF CHRIST.
Why? Because we see the mystery before us. We see it in art around us and in the Catholic lense through which the world around us is filtered. There is a Catholic understanding of the world: Love God before all things and one another as we love ourselves.
Does this seem a little too simplistic? It is through the simplicity of a child’s mind that we must understand the world around us. If we tell children that God loves them, they believe it without any doubts. If we tell children that God will protect them from the monsters in the closet, they will believe it without any doubts.
If we tell an adult that God loves them and will protect them from their own inner demons, they ask, “What’s the catch?” Once we embrace our fallen world and let go of our innocence, we let go of God. We let go of the kind of trust is took for Mary to say, “Let it be done to me according to thy word,” effectively making her the Mother of God. We are all called to come home again. The Church is our Mother. Mary is our Mother. We see the invitations on the wals of of our churches, the walls of our homes, but where to we see it outside of our sanctuaries? Where is the uplifting art in the wilds of mainstream society?
Where can we ask the Lord to tell us that He loves us in a world that is trying to silence Christianity for fear that someone may be offended?
But it is not just religious art and music that lift us up. Family-friendly entertainment achieves this as well. Recently, I have introduced my children to the 1970s The Muppet Show and Disney Pixar’s Monters Inc and The Incredibles. My children love them! The content is enjoyable for all ages. My husband and I sit with them each day to watch a “family movie”, and these are the movies they choose.
What makes a family-friendly program? It must include silliness for the sake of silliness, a lesson for the family to take with them, memorable characters the children want to “get to know” and “make friends with” while the parents don’t mind watching over and over again. There is nothing blatently questionable, while there may a little something the children will understand when they get older.
Whether it be catechesis or a family outing on a Saturday afternoon, art and music play an integral part in our lives. We at Holy Heart Media strive to create a program line-up that will reinforce the Catholic identity through family-friendly entertainment.
