Root of Jesse

Root of Jesse

Michael departs from realism in presenting Mary and the infant Jesus as part of an abstract flower form. He uses drapery folds to represent roots, stem and blossom, yet maintains realism in the palyful face of Mary and in the head of the sleeping baby Jesus. The roots are firmly planted in the earth, shown as a hemisphere. First casting was produced for Creighton Prep's Bash Fund Raiser, April of 1995.
